Hi, 你好 [nǐhǎo]! I’m Zhihan Su.
I am a doctoral-level therapist who speaks Mandarin and English. I help individuals and couples, especially from diverse cultural backgrounds, understand their relationship dynamics by exploring their own unique life stories, so they can build stronger connections, develop resilience, and increase personal growth.
Throughout my education and professional experience, I have had the privilege of living in several states–Iowa, Pennsylvania, New York, Texas, and Georgia, which has deeply enriched my understanding of different sociocultural contexts and how they influence individuals, couples, and families.
My approach to therapy centers around helping my clients explore their own personal journey, understanding their unique life story, particularly how it influences their mental health and relationship. I strive to create a safe and affirming space that fosters open emotional expression, empowering clients to connect differently and navigate their personal and interpersonal challenges.
Intercultural couple relationships
I see relationships as a patchwork, made up of different pieces that often need care and stitching to stay connected. For intercultural couples, these pieces can include the complexities of cross-cultural dynamics, which bring unique challenges. Whether you are managing differences in values, bridging communication gaps, or balancing different life expectations, I am here to support you as we work through those challenges together.
I incorporate several systemic approaches, including Bowen Family Systems, Structural Family Therapy, and Emotionally Focused Therapy, to help build resilience and enhance relationship satisfaction. My goal is to collaborate with you to strengthen your emotional bond, uncover the layers of your relationship, and cultivate growth, understanding, and deeper connection.
More About Me
I moved from China to the United States in 2009 to pursue my education in counseling. I hold a Master of Family Therapy from Drexel University in Philadelphia, and I am currently a Ph.D. candidate in the Marriage and Family Therapy department at Syracuse University, with expected graduation in 2025. I am under supervision for my MFT license by Liz Fava, LPC 007935.
I work with a broad spectrum of clients, including those from immigrant background, LGBTQA+individuals/couples, and neurodivergent folks, helping them navigate the complexities of their unique identities, relationships, and life transitions.
