Gain tools to set boundaries with friends and family members so you can better enjoy your holiday season
It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Or, is it? Holidays are upon us once again, and though that can bring many good things, that can also mean lots of holiday drama! Pressure to spend money, obligations to not let down family or friends, getting caught in upsetting conversations, and much more make the holidays a stressful time. Add in navigating complicated relationships or family dynamics and suddenly we’re dreading the time of year that should be enjoyed. The good thing is, holidays don’t have to feel like this every year.
This educational workshop is all about giving you the tools to set healthy boundaries with your family and friends so this holiday season doesn’t have to feel so overwhelming.
We’ll share some helpful information, discuss as a group, and role-play challenging conversations to help you feel more confident in saying what you need to make this time of year more enjoyable.

- What Are Boundaries? We’ll dive into what healthy boundaries actually look like, how they help you stay sane, show respect, and keep your own space in family relationships. We’ll also talk about the different kinds of boundaries, like emotional, physical, time, and money boundaries.
- Why and When to Use Them: We’ll spend time explaining why boundaries are so important – like preventing burnout, managing expectations, and cutting down on conflict. You’ll learn to clearly spot situations and family dynamics where boundaries are needed, especially when you’re dealing with holiday get-togethers and family traditions.
- How to Actually Talk About Your Boundaries: This is the practical part! We’ll focus on how to clearly, assertively, and respectfully communicate your boundaries. We’ll cover things like:
- Using “I” statements and clear but kind language to share your needs and feelings.
- Really listening to others and acknowledging their side.
- Being realistic about how people might react to your boundaries.
- Tips for dealing with pushback or resistance.
- Sticking to your boundaries consistently.
- Role-Playing: To really make boundaries stick and build your confidence, we’ll do some interactive role-playing. These exercises will be a safe space to practice setting boundaries in typical holiday situations, like:
- Turning down invitations or requests.
- Dealing with unwanted advice or nosy questions.
- Setting limits on gift-giving or spending.
- Handling awkward conversations or behaviors.
- Gracefully getting out of overwhelming situations.
With some helpful tips and a little practice, you’ll feel confident expressing your needs and expectations to others, and can get back to enjoying this holiday season together.
