Hi, I’m Serena Johnson, an Anxiety and Trauma therapist in Atlanta, GA.

I help you to build a new perspective of yourself and take steps toward creating the healing that you need.

I approach counseling with the belief that we have all learned how to be the person we are today. We go through our lives acting and reacting in the same way we always have, because that’s what we know. You’re often catching yourself saying the phrase: I wish I could do things differently.

As a person-centered therapist, I believe that you have the solution you need. Often we fall into the habit of playing this person we think we need to be. A collaborative counseling process will offer you the space and support to discover who you actually are and what you really need.

I focus on issues centered around anxiety, self-confidence, identity, relationships, attachment, faith/religious questioning, perfectionism, depression and trauma. I also work on building skills with individuals and couples to improve communication and awareness, and break negative conflict cycles in their relationships.

I utilize approaches like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Gottman Couples Counseling, and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) to help clients navigate their unique process of self-exploration and formation. I incorporate strategies like grounding, breathing, behavior replacement, and EMDR bilateral stimulation to help my clients process deep-rooted anxiety, depression, and trauma within themselves and their relationships. My goal is for my clients to gain a better understanding of their life and experiences so they can start to accept themselves and build the skills they need to heal.

I know from personal experience of being raised in a faith-based community that it’s hard to navigate the world when you have questions about your values, your purpose, and your happiness. Because of this, I believe in creating a supportive environment for ethnic, cultural, faith/religious/existential beliefs, as well as a safe space for LGBTQIA+ identities, where you can explore all questions freely.

Outside of the counseling office, I love to try new restaurants and explore cooking new recipes at home. I also enjoy a good fantasy epic and spending time watching movies on the couch with a delicious snack pairing.

I am currently working under the supervision of Dana Robinson (LPC).

If you feel that we may be a good fit, reach out to me for a free phone consultation.
