Hi, I’m Serena Johnson, a CBT and Anxiety therapist in Atlanta, GA.
I help you to problem-solve areas of anxiety and stress in your routine so you can be confident to experience life as your authentic self.
I approach counseling with the belief that we have all learned how to be the person we are today. We go through our lives acting and reacting in the same way we always have, because that’s what we know. Have you ever caught yourself saying the phrase, “I wish things were different”?
As a person-centered therapist, I believe that you have the solution you need. A collaborative counseling process will offer you the space and support to discover exactly what you want out of life.
I focus on issues centered around anxiety, self-confidence, identity, interpersonal relationships, attachment, faith/religious questioning, perfectionism, and depression. I also work on building skills with individuals and couples to improve communication and awareness in their relationships.
I take a Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) approach to help you identify those things in your life that aren’t working for you anymore: maybe it’s an unhelpful routine, a negative mindset, faulty coping mechanisms, low confidence, or decision anxiety—whatever it is, I believe we can find it together. I also incorporate Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) into my work to incorporate effective coping strategies (breathing, mindfulness, acceptance) to help my clients feel better as they navigate their unique process of self-exploration. My goal is for my clients to feel empowered and able to make the changes they need to live happily.
I know from personal experience of being raised in faith-based community that it’s hard to navigate the world when you have questions about your values, your purpose, and your happiness. Because of this, I believe in creating a supportive environment for ethnic, cultural, faith/religious/existential beliefs, as well as a safe space for LGBTQIA+ identities, where you can explore all questions freely.
Outside of the counseling office, I love to try new restaurants and explore cooking new recipes at home. I also enjoy a good fantasy epic and spend a lot of time watching movies on the couch with my dog.
I am currently working under the supervision of Dana Robinson (LPC).
If you feel that we may be a good fit, reach out to me for a free phone consultation.
